I recently logged into my wordpress account, and received a message that the version I was using was now officially unsupported. I was using 3.9.40 (I know, but if it ain't broke). I wanted to upgrade to the newest version, 6.1, but was unable to do so, since my server only had PHP 5.6, released in 2014. When I inquired about moving to a new server, they told me they didn't have any. I repeated myself because surely that can't be true. You're a webhost that doesn't upgrade your servers? They assured me they understood and indeed, they had no newer servers onto which I could move, but they had a partner company they could put me in touch with. No thank you. I'll find a new hew host then.
In preparation for the move, I asked what my temp domain was, so I could access all my content while DNS was propagating to the new server. 8 hours after my email I received a response where they told me they did not provide one. I told them that is impossible, since the cheap linux hosting plans were name based, and only worked when a domain name was pointed at them and I got one when I signed up, but it had been 8 years and I no longer recalled it, and they used to provide a shared subdomain. I responded back immediately that that must not be correct, and then a full two weeks later they response with "Apologies for the late response, but it's still no, we don't do that". At that point I had already canceled 10 days prior and it was a moot point.
They used to have awesome chat and phone support that would always get you some type of response in under 4 hours by email, and you could reach a knowledge tech on the phone on the first ring. That is clearly no longer the case and I would avoid like the plague unless you need a legacy server. However, when I called to cancel, the cancellation team was very prompt and had that polish I remember the support team used to have, and that's a damn shame. I'm sure it's because they see the most action.
They have no one you can speak to directly to solve site issues. If you have a problem with your web site their phone responders can only pass the information along and can not give you a time that your issue will be resolved. Not a stable service. Multiple problems
Do not sign up with this company! 10 years ago they were awesome. Now their tech support is little more than voicemail and the response is always "It's been escalated" and "we're working on it.' Had a simple ticket in for a week and despite multiple calls and emails no one will give me a response. Our dog rescue organization has been shut down for a week (and still ongoing) because we can't get an answer.
having trouble getting my email to download to my laptop. Long conversation with one tech support rep but problem only temporarily remedied. Called back and got another rep who insisted that I needed to delete and then reinstall my email program. I asked if he was sure everything would be restored since I have my all business info there; his assurance disappeared when he discovered the the program could not be reinstalled. Now this is MY problem since they are unable/unwilling to fix it. This, coupled with snippy service during another recent call PLUS the fact that they FORGOT to credit an overcharge when billing me for services, will drive me to find another hosting site. I had been using hostmysite since creating my business many years ago but the service is not longer dependable.
First, emails from our HostMySite domain starting getting blocked by other major email providers. After a week of going back and forth with support (and them denying the issue was on their end) they closed the support ticket and admitted their servers were being blocked. The offered no fix or timeline for a fix but then had the nerve to try to sell us a more expensive plan that would solve the problem.
A couple of days ago our outgoing email stopped working completely. I called and they created a ticket, and over the next couple of days I talked to 4 different support agents who were all telling me that they either didn't know what the problem was or that we exceeded our (measly) 2 GB storage guota. However, our control panel said we were only using about 10% of our quota. They again suggested to purchase more storage. The next day I get an email saying that the control panel is broken and not reporting the correct usage. Then I get another email saying we're actually only using 75% or our storage. The next day it magically started working again without doing anything to clean up our storage.
Finally I decided to move to Rackspace. I looked for articles on their site about how to repoint the domain's MX records, but all of the articles are outdated and show pictures of a control panel interface that has obviously changed since they published the article.
I'll be happy once this process is done and we can say goodbye to HostMySite.
HostMySite destroyed my web page. There is "foreign" junl where my HTML code used to be. They refuse to fix it, claiming there is some problem with my computer. I have copies of he original HTLM, CSS, etc., but my FTP password does not work anymore.
Our site has now been down for several hours. We have been on hold with them for 2.5 hours and counting. We have simultaneously been sitting on the online chat which ostensibly is available. An agent said hello and has not come back to respond to us.
They are never quick responders but, today is the worst ever.
A shadow of a shadow of what they used to be! Lower your blood pressure avoid at all cost
As a re-seller of their services I know them well - basically when they transferred their support to India they bought the farm - I have no problem getting thru to them if you don't mine calling at 3:00 AM USA time. It gets worst - recently corrupted databases for MS exchange active directory required having them escalate every problem to their platform support group - when I asked as to an estimated time for resolution they said we don't know the platform support is located in Romania
